Impact of 2+2 arrivals on this year’s HBS applicants: US kids get screwed

Sandy — What do you think will be the impact of the 2+2 class coming in next year on the overall class profile at H? I believe the 2+2 subgroup in itself will be as diverse (culturally, geographically, professionally) as the overall HBS population. But average age will surely slip lower considering more than 10% of the class will be 22-23.

duh, been saying all along that arrival of 2+2 will impact this year’s class. BUT– Reliable rumor has it that of those 106 accepted kids, some substanial number, 20-30, will defer another year, so the 2+2 arriving cohort will be not be 106 but more like ~80.

For a description of that class, the one due to arrive in Sept, see link below and note GREAT HBSGURU quotes.

As to their diversity, the entering 2+2 kids are prob tilted WAYMORE to USA kids than Internationals, altho story above silent on that, since 2+2 outreach which fielded that class was really USA focused since it was first year. I dont have stats, but my guess is, Int component of that class could have been real, real low, mostly Ints at US schools. Only ONE kid from IIT was a member of first 2+2 class, my guess is, members of current 2+2 class just fielded who attend IIT and other prestige schools abroad, isway higher. etc. etc. And also more kids fr. China and cert more Ints studyiing in USA. Soooo, if anything, if HBS wants to keep up its drive to keep International cohort at ~34pct, the cohort getting screwed next year will be US KIDS. As to age, dunno, that is a tuff one, as stated here, the more impt metric is class you graduate from college not work exp per se, altho others may differ (including ‘official’ remarks by Dee herself). The charts on her blog are pretty compelling, and NOTE–they are NOT organized by months of work ex, but by year of college grad, sooooooooooooo, draw your own conclusions as to what kind of charts she keeps in her lap. if you are applying next year, and you grad in 2005 or earlier, well, you got a tuff row to hoe. Esp. as noted many times here, if you are in trad. gigs like IB, MC etc. Will that change due to a pick up in IB and MC hiring, that could happen. BELIEVE ME, HBS IS NOTHING IF NOT MARKET RESPONSIVE, their official baloney about their motives aside.

Of course, those 30 2+2 kids who do not matric next year, will matric at some pt. and at some pt, the 2+2 cohort is going to be ~100, sooooooo, yes, getting into HBS just got harder.
